Do you know what makes a shipment a full truckload? Shipments that require guaranteed pick-up and delivery dates and time and/or shipments that take up all available space or the max weight limit on a single truck.
In general, the maximum legal load width is 8’5″ (or 102 inches), and the maximum height limit is also 102 inches. Legal length is typically 48 to 53 feet, and the maximum weight is roughly 46,000 pounds. Legal dimensions also vary between provinces and states.
As an example, we recently shipped 5,000 pounds of metal plates from Maryland to Illinois on a 48′ step deck. This load was 48′ in length, 8’5″ in width and 10′ in height. With the step deck, this made it a legal load which required a full truckload service. We always make sure we provide the correct trailers, equipment, and requirements to ensure successful delivery.
