Our featured shipment this month is about a journey of a giant! This was an oversized shipment of a massive Salt Conveyor, a behemoth structure crucial for the handling and processing of salt. This load was stretching an impressive 77 feet in length, standing tall at 10 feet 9 inches, and measuring 10 feet in width. This colossal piece of equipment, tipping the scales at 25,000 pounds, embarked on a journey from Illinois to Ontario, navigating the complexities of cross-border transportation.
The sheer size and weight of the Salt Conveyor meant that a standard trailer would not suffice. Enter the stretch trailer — an extendable marvel engineered to transport long and heavy loads that regular trailers can’t handle.
The choice of a stretch trailer was paramount, not only for accommodating the Salt Conveyor’s impressive dimensions but also for ensuring safe and compliant transportation across state and international borders. Detailed route planning was crucial, taking into account road conditions, bridge heights and weights, and traffic regulations, especially considering the unique challenges of navigating through urban areas and crossing the border into Canada.
Crossing the border presented its own set of challenges by ensuring all paperwork, permits, route surveys, trailer equipment and regulatory requirements were in order for a smooth transition from the United States into Canada. As well as maintaining communication and coordination between all parties involved. This level of preparation and coordination was critical to avoiding delays and ensuring the client’s needs are met by delivering the conveyor on time to its destination in Ontario.
